FC 27 Fans Are Split on EA's Deliberate Evolutions Nerf

Evolutions have become the loudest argument in FC 27 Ultimate Team right now, and it is not because of a bug. EA addressed Evos directly in the FUT Developer Launch Update published on 1 October 2026, saying Evolutions matter for keeping the players you care about in your squad and that the team is watching feedback on them closely through the year. Alongside that, EA has said the smaller upgrades are deliberate — a retune meant to rebalance how squads improve across Evolutions, rewards, SBCs and the Transfer Market.

That one word, deliberate, is what split the community.

What actually changed

The gains did not vanish, they moved. Low-rated entry cards can still climb by double digits, which is why cheap Evo filler is still a thing. The squeeze is at the top: cards already sitting in the high 70s are picking up only a couple of overall plus a role or PlayStyle, rather than being transformed into starters.

Entry cardTypical gain nowWhat you realistically get
Low-rated (70-74)Double-digit OVRFodder, Live Event filler, objective squads
78-79 OVRAround 2-3 OVR plus a roleA slightly better rotation option
High-rated entriesThe tightest caps of allA card close to what you already owned

The side defending the change

Players arguing in EA's favour on Reddit and in forum threads make a fairly consistent point: in recent years Evolutions quietly replaced the Transfer Market. If a 79 base gold could be walked up into a meta starter for free, there was no reason to chase SBC cards, no reason to grind rewards, and no reason to trade. Smaller Evos push value back into packs, promo cards and actual market play. A few also point out that a weaker Evo system means squads look more varied, instead of everyone running the same four evolved cards by October.

The side that is furious

The other camp says EA solved the wrong problem. Their argument is that Evolutions were the one part of FUT that rewarded attachment — you picked a player you liked and made him viable. Capping the upgrade to two overall and a role does not rebalance anything, it just removes the reason to open the menu.

One complaint doing the rounds is a goalkeeper Evolution with a low entry requirement that finishes around 79 overall — a keeper nobody is starting in Rivals or Champions. Several posts frame that kind of pathway as the final straw rather than a one-off misfire. The sharper version of the criticism is that if upgrades now have to come from packs and the market, the nerf is less about balance and more about pushing people toward spending.

Both sides are right about something. The Evo-replaces-market problem was real. So is the complaint that a 2-OVR pathway is not worth the grind.

What it means for coins

This is the part that matters for your bank. If Evolutions can no longer manufacture a starter, your Starting XI has to be bought or packed — and EA itself noted in the same update that coin balances are running more than 50% higher than at this point in FC 26, with more players buying their first-team cards straight off the market. More coins chasing cards EA just made harder to upgrade is a recipe for the top end getting pricier, even while carryover reward waves through October keep the 81-84 bracket well supplied.

Practical read for Indian players:

  • Stop banking on Evos to fix a weak position. Price the finished card instead.
  • Low-rated Evo pathways are still fine for objective and Live Event squads — use them there.
  • Keep fodder cheap. The 84-rated bracket is still the best value per Item Score point, and the October reward drops keep topping it up.
  • Expect meta cards and Future Stars pulls to hold their price better than usual this year.

Future Stars Team 1 is expected on 9 October 2026 at around 10:30 PM IST, with Ultimate Scream reported to follow later in the month — treat exact dates from leak roundups as unconfirmed until EA posts them. Either way, a healthy coin balance is now doing the job Evolutions used to.
