FC 27 Fans Can't Agree: Is the Delay Servers or Gameplay?

Launch week has one argument, and it won't die
FC 27 went worldwide on 25 September, and within hours the biggest thread topic in the FUT community wasn't ratings or packs — it was why the game feels heavy. Players on Reddit and the EA forums are describing the same handful of symptoms: passes leaving the foot a beat after the input, turns that feel wide and animation-locked, sprint that hesitates before it engages, and first touches that pop the ball upwards.
Everyone agrees it feels off. Nobody agrees on why. And the split matters, because one explanation gets fixed by EA in a patch and the other one is the game you're buying a squad for.
Side one: it's the servers
The connection camp points at launch week itself. Worldwide release is the single heaviest load EA's servers carry all year, and the complaint volume tracks it — "connection unstable" warnings mid-match, disconnects, and ping that spikes without warning.
The routing argument is the sharper one, and it's the one that hits us hardest in India. Players across Asia and the Middle East have been reporting for a while that they get pushed onto European data centres even when a closer one exists — one widely repeated example is players in the Gulf landing on EU servers despite a Dammam centre being live. Third-party server guides list Mumbai among EA's Asian locations, but EA has never published its matchmaking routing rules, so treat any specific claim about which centre you're on as unconfirmed.
What poured fuel on this: Title Update 1.0.1 shipped with a ping fix — and it sits in The Grounds section, pointed at League Matches. FUT, Rivals and Champions got no connection fix at all. Ultimate Team's single entry in that patch was a UI bug with the Evolutions filter. For anyone queuing Rivals at 11pm IST on 250ms, that reads as being skipped.
Side two: it's just the new gameplay
The other camp says people are mislabelling a design change as lag. EA stated plainly that 1.0.1 deliberately leaves gameplay balance and tuning alone to preserve the Early Access and launch feel — so the weight you're feeling is intentional, not broken.
FC 27 leans harder on manual defending and pulls back AI assistance. Less help means your inputs actually have to land, which feels exactly like delay if you came off FC 26's more forgiving assistance. The test people keep recommending: play 60 seconds of offline Kick Off. No server involved. If the turns and passes still feel heavy there, that's the tuning, not your ping.
Honest take: it's both, and they're stacking. Launch congestion is real and will ease. The heavier base feel is deliberate and won't.
What this means for your coins
Here's the part traders should care about. Launch week is a supply shock — every club locked out of early access opens packs at once, and EA pushed a higher share of rewards onto the transfer market this year with Rivals pack rewards tradeable from the start.
| Window | What usually happens |
| First 24–48h after console unlock | Price floor for most 80–84 OVR cards |
| Sat–Mon after launch | 80–84s commonly drift 10–25% lower |
| Following week | Meta cards recover, fodder settles |
Those are tracker patterns, not guarantees — verify live prices before you commit.
The delay debate feeds straight into this. Plenty of players are holding off on a meta squad until the game feels right, which softens demand exactly when supply peaks. If you were going to build, the dip is the moment — not the panic-buy on Friday night. And don't judge a card's "meta" status this week; on a bad connection, every fast winger looks broken and every CB looks slow.
Set your expectations for the fix too: connection routing has historically been the slowest thing EA changes. Plan your season around the gameplay as it is today.
