Why FC 27 Players Still Swear Pack Weight Is Real

The argument that refuses to die
Three weeks into FC 27 and the loudest fight in Ultimate Team is not about defending or input delay — it is about packs. Scroll the FUT forums and community threads and you will find the same claim repeated in a dozen forms: that EA quietly weights pack contents per account, that some players are "flagged" after spending or grinding, and that the published odds are decoration.
The counter-argument is just as loud. Plenty of players are pushing back with basic probability — independent events, big player pools, and the simple fact that thousands of people opening the same pack will produce a long tail of miserable results by design, not by punishment.
What each side is actually saying
The pack weight camp:
- Long threads from players who say they have put in real money and daily hours and still have nothing tradeable worth keeping
- A belief that odds shift based on spending history, playtime, or club value
- Requests for EA to "check" an account's pack configuration, as if it were a per-user setting
The variance camp:
- Every opening is its own event — a dry run does not make the next pack warmer
- The FC 27 player pool is enormous, so any one named card is rare even when category odds look generous
- Nobody has produced an independent dataset showing different rates between accounts
EA's community team has answered this directly in the FC 27 forums, and the line has not moved: there is no such thing as pack luck, every user has the same chance of any given item, and nothing a player does changes what a pack can contain. Players in the same threads immediately called that insufficient without published per-item data — which is roughly where the argument stalls every year.
What the probability screen really promises
A lot of the anger comes from misreading the numbers EA does show. The Show Pack Probabilities screen is narrower than it looks.
| What players read it as | What it actually is |
| Chance of a specific player | Minimum chance of at least one item in a rating range or category |
| Percentages you can add up | Overlapping bands — an 85-rated card counts toward 75+, 82+ and 84+ at once |
| A promise about value | No statement about tradeable price at all |
Those figures are generated by simulating very large numbers of openings, so they describe the pack, not your session. On Holographics, EA's stated rate is roughly 5% for eligible randomly awarded special items — Bronze, Silver and Gold are excluded, guaranteed items do not qualify, and packs or Player Picks that promise a fixed set of players will not hand you Holographic versions of them. Holos play identically on the pitch; their pull is Item Score for Gallery Sets and Streamlined SBCs, plus market scarcity.
Worth noting: Title Update 1.0.4 on 7 October did not touch pack odds, chemistry or pricing. Nothing changed under the hood this month, whatever your pack history feels like.
The grounded take for Indian players
Both sides are partly right in a boring way. There is no evidence of per-account weighting, and EA's denial is consistent year after year — but "the odds are uniform" and "the odds are good value" are completely different claims, and only the first one is being defended.
What that means in practice this season:
- Packs are an entertainment purchase, not a squad plan. The screen's category odds were never designed to get you a specific card.
- The market is doing the heavy lifting. FC 27 pushed a much higher share of tradeable rewards, which keeps flooding the 80–84 band every weekend — exactly the fodder SBCs eat.
- Watch the Halloween window. Leaks point to Ultimate Scream arriving around the 23rd, which would mean fresh store packs and a supply spike; treat the date as unconfirmed until EA posts it. Expect prices to wobble from roughly 10:30 PM IST on content days.
