FC 27 Fans Say Roles++ Already Killed Ultimate Scream

Published 2026-10-19 · DB.Coins Blog

The Argument Nobody Expected Before Halloween

Ultimate Scream is supposed to be the easy one. Spooky cards, random stat boosts, a bit of chaos before the serious promos arrive. Instead, the FC 27 community has spent the week arguing about whether the promo's signature upgrade mechanic can even exist this year — and that argument has real consequences for anyone deciding where to put their coins.

The trigger is something EA already confirmed. In the FC 27 Launch Update pitch notes, EA stated that Campaign Player Items arrive with their position's Roles++ already unlocked, across both primary and secondary positions. The stated goal was flexibility: drop any special card into your preferred system without grinding role familiarity.

Players on Reddit and the EA forums have now connected that to Ultimate Scream and reached an awkward conclusion.

Why Roles++ Breaks the Old Formula

Here's the FC 26 version for context. Scream items received a permanent Role+ upgrade on one full moon, then a permanent Role++ upgrade on a second one — the Beaver Moon followed by the Cold Moon — plus a temporary boost to 99 in one random face stat for seven days. Evolution Scream items were left out of the moon upgrades entirely.

Strip out the Role+ and Role++ steps, because FC 27 hands those over for free on day one, and what's left is the seven-day face-stat boost. Two of the three rewards are already in your club the moment you pack the card.

The community has split roughly into two camps:

  • "The promo is hollow now." One side argues the moon cycle was the whole appeal — a reason to hold a card for weeks and watch it grow. Without the permanent upgrades, a Scream item is just a special card with a temporary gimmick attached.
  • "EA will replace it with something better." The other side points out that EA knows the Roles++ change makes the old structure redundant, and expects a reworked boost — bigger temporary stats, or upgrades tied to something other than roles.

Both readings are guesses. As things stand, EA has not published anything about an FC 27 Ultimate Scream promo, let alone how its upgrades would work.

What's Actually Confirmed vs What Isn't

Players did find Ultimate Scream upgrade text inside Team of the Week info panels, which kicked off a second argument: is that live FC 27 code, or leftover text from last year's build? Nobody has settled it.

There's a separate design row running alongside all this. Leaked card art has been circulating, and sentiment on the forums and on X leans negative — a fair few players reckon last year's Scream design looked sharper, and some say the FC 27 version doesn't read as Halloween at all. Worth remembering those designs are unverified too.

Our Take, and What It Means for Your Coins

The sceptics have the stronger case on mechanics, but they're overrating the damage. Roles++ at launch devalues the upgrade path, not the card. A Scream item is still a special card with Scream-level stats — the hold-for-weeks appeal is what's gone, not the playability.

The practical read for traders:

  • Don't pre-invest in meta golds expecting a promo spike. Price trackers around mid-October showed far more cards drifting down than up over a seven-day window, and a promo week typically pushes that further.
  • Fodder is the safer play. Streamlined SBCs take cards by item score, so 81–84 rated golds remain the reliable buy while they're cheap. There's also an unconfirmed leak about gold discard values being cut by roughly half, to around 300 coins — if that lands, quick-selling gets worse and buying fodder cheap gets better.
  • Wait for EA's own post before buying any Scream card. If the upgrade structure is reworked, launch-night prices will be mispriced in one direction or the other.

Patience beats hype here. Let the promo go live, read what the upgrades actually do, then spend.
