FC 27 Fans Want Squad Battles Glitch Rewards Stripped

The glitch EA quietly closed

For the first week or so of FC 27's Ultimate Team cycle, Squad Battles had a hole in it. From the match preview screen — after you had already picked your opponent and difficulty — you could drop into Game Settings, move to the Match tab, and switch off things that are supposed to be locked in competitive play: offsides, handballs, bookings, injuries, with referee strictness pulled right down.

EA closed it in Title Update 1.05 on 2 October 2026, which went out across all platforms. The patch notes list it in dry language — unintended match settings could have been changed in Squad Battles — alongside Moments loading fixes, The Grounds matchmaking and a Career Mode transfer-request bug. No gameplay tuning, again.

Why it mattered more than a normal bug

Squad Battles points scale with result, difficulty and in-match performance. Turn off offsides and fouls on the hardest difficulty and you are not guaranteed a win, but you are handed a far easier route to a big scoreline — and a big scoreline is exactly what the leaderboard pays for.

The problem is that the top tiers are percentile-based, not fixed thresholds:

FinishCoinsPacks
Top 10026,00015x 78+ (tradeable), 3x 84+ (untradeable)
Elite 1 (top 3%)25,00015x 77+ (tradeable), 3x 84+ (untradeable)
Elite 2 (top 6%)20,00015x 75+ (tradeable), 2x 84+ (untradeable)
Elite 3 (top 10%)15,00011x 75+ (tradeable), 8x 83+ (untradeable)

Rewards are not cumulative, and they land every Sunday at around 12:30 PM IST. So an inflated score does not just reward one person — it pushes everyone below them down a percentile band. Champions Qualification Points now also tick up through Squad Battles in FC 27, which raises the stakes further.

Where the community splits

Players arguing one side point out that nobody had to download a tool or touch a file. The toggles were sitting in a menu EA shipped, on a screen EA put them on, and plenty of people flicked them without any idea they were in a ranked context. On that reading, this is an EA QA failure and punishing players for it would be absurd.

The other camp is less forgiving. EA's own rules treat abusing a bug as cheating, and the mode's rewards are zero-sum by design — if your Elite 1 finish exists because offsides were off, someone who played clean dropped to Elite 2 and lost about 5,000 coins plus the better pack tier. That group wants the affected weeks' leaderboards recalculated, or at minimum no action against honest accounts.

Running underneath both sides is a quieter worry: people who toggled settings casually are now nervous that a flag sits on their account. Nothing in the patch notes says EA is reviewing those weeks, and no reward clawback has been announced — treat any claim otherwise as unconfirmed chatter.

Our take, and what it means for your coins

The fairness complaint is the real one. A percentile leaderboard with an open settings menu was always going to produce this, and EA fixing it silently without addressing the already-paid rewards is why the thread keeps going.

Practically: the exploit is patched, so stop worrying about it and do not go looking for the next one — a banned club is a total loss, and no seller can undo an EA sanction. Watch the Sunday reward drop instead. Those tradeable 77+ and 78+ packs flooding in at once still soften 83-84 rated fodder for a day or two, which is the cheapest window to stock up before the next Destined for Glory and POTM SBCs eat it all.
