Why FC 27's Locked Transfer Market Has Fans Fuming

The complaint blowing up right now

FC 27 early access opened on 18 September for Ultimate edition owners, with global launch on 25 September. Instead of the usual launch-week trading frenzy, a big chunk of the community spent the first days staring at a greyed-out transfer market.

Players across Reddit, X and the EA forums are venting about the same thing: they paid extra to play early, loaded into Ultimate Team, and found they couldn't buy or sell a single card. The most-repeated line in those threads is some version of "what exactly did I pre-order for?"

Two different locks — and almost everyone confuses them

This is where most of the arguing comes from. There isn't one market lock in FC 27, there are two, and they work nothing alike.

LockWho it hitsHow you clear it
Graduated Access (in-game market + Champions)Brand-new FUT accountsFinish three objective groups: The Academy Grind, First Team Dreams, Rising Through the Ranks
Web / Companion App marketAlmost anyone, including returnersAccumulate "active days" — roughly 2 for a clean sole account on a device

EA has said Graduated Access does not automatically hand you web app market access. So players who ground out every objective on console are still finding the web app locked the next morning, and understandably assuming something is broken.

On top of that, the device rule catches people out: if more than one Ultimate Team account has ever been used on the same device, reports point to at least four active days, and longer as more accounts are involved. Plenty of Indian players share a console or PC with a sibling or a friend — that's an easy way to land in the slower bucket without doing anything wrong.

The bit that made it worse

The loudest threads aren't from new players at all. They're from people who had full market access in FC 26 and expected it to carry over. Several forum reports say support has acknowledged returning-player access problems as a known issue without giving a timeline. That part is still unconfirmed as an official bug, so treat it as reported rather than settled.

Both sides of the argument

"This is EA protecting the market." Graduated Access exists to stop fresh accounts being spun up as disposable coin mules on day one. Anyone who remembers how aggressively the early market gets farmed can see why a gate exists, and EA has framed it as easing genuine newcomers into FUT rather than dropping them into a shark tank.

"Then don't sell it as early access." The counter-argument is simple and hard to dismiss: if the gate is account-age based, it should be communicated at the point of purchase, not discovered after launching the game. Players also point out the returning-player cases suggest the system is catching the wrong people.

The honest take — and what it means for coins

The gate is real, it's temporary, and it is quietly reshaping launch week. Fewer active traders means thinner listings, and 83–85 rated fodder has been holding stubbornly high prices because early SBCs are eating supply that the usual army of day-one traders isn't replacing yet.

Practical moves while you wait:

  • Log into the web app every single day, even for 30 seconds. Active days only tick if you actually show up.
  • Play your three UT matches and log in on the same calendar day — that's the pattern most players report working.
  • Don't panic-buy on unlock day. The 25 September global launch dumps the entire player base into the economy at once. That's the supply shock, and prices on meta cards historically soften afterwards.
  • Bank your objective and campaign rewards rather than flipping them at peak prices.

If you get market access late, you haven't lost the season — you've just skipped the most overpriced week of it.
